Five major races live in Lhân, commonly known as the Kingdoms of the West. These races are the Qajari, also known as Alb; the Gaelen, who are humans; the stocky Whynn, who are commonly called Dwarves, the primal Gharyak and the evil halflings known as Khurrn.

The Qajari are physically powerful and enchanting; they live in the deep Forest of Loren and the unspoilt surrounding lands that make up the kingdom Eleiran. They have perfected art and philosophy, excelling both in the crafts of mind, body and war. It is the most sacred belief of the Qajari that theirs was the first race to achieve sentience and they claim that they are still the pinnacle of creation. The Qajari race consists of at least three sub-races, the noble Valĉri, the spiritual Lanĉri and the emotionally unstable Nalari.

The Gaelen make up the major population of the Kingdoms of the West. Although of the same basic human stock (probably derived from a common human race), all show distinctive regional differences. If there is a common Gaelen, the the inhabitants of Cambria and Nethiah are closest to it. Maelvilians usually show a superb endurance and the Gaelen of the Borderlands combine both endurance and strength, but usually lack in social skills. Little is known about the Lhaarn of Lharzha, but they seem to be a breed different from the usual Gaelen of Lhân, as well in physique as in intellect. The fierce Jharkorians are the best fighters in the Kingdoms of the West and they are powerfully built and agile. Finally the Gaelen of Sijaal are an inquisitive people who usually place more emphasis on the mind than on the sword. The finest scientists and mentalist stem from Sijaal.

Little is known about the Whynn, who live in deep underground cities underneath the eastern mountains of the Badlands or underneath the steep eastern cliffs of the great basin that forms the lowlands of Maelvil. They are shorter than Gaelen, but are of a broad build. Whynn are accomplished fighters; a neccessity, as their chthonian cities are constantly under siege by their underground rivals. Most Whynn are also master artisans; the few items of Whynn make that have found their way to the surface of the continent show at least as much skill as items of Qajari origin, some even surpass them.

The Gharyak are a race that show physical similarities to the other humanoid races of Lhân, but on an earlier stage of development. Racist Valĉri state that Gharyak are nothing more than primal humans, while Sijaalian lorists believe that the Gharyak are the original population of Lhân before it was settled by Gaelen, Whynn or Qajari. Nevertheless, the Gharyak are a primal people and usually possess much physical prowess, but lack severely in intellectual capacity.

The Khurrn, finally, are not native to the surface lands, or so the Whynn claim. They state that the Khurrn who plague today's Hirun escaped from the underearth wars that the Whynn wage with the Khurrn and their brutal overlords, the Oorsch, and settled on the plains of Hirun where they quickly multiplied. Today they are as common on the surface of Lhân as in the caverns below. Khurrn are a little folk, they are only half as tall as a common Gaelen, and they lack in strength and valor, but usually make this up in viciousness.
